Visits to the Castle
Visitors to the castle, arriving by cars and buses, can make use of the central parking site in the River Berounka valley. Entering the left-bank part of the village towards the castle by visitors in vehicles is significantly restricted, as shown by traffic signs. Apart from visiting the castle, it is possible to pop into the Museum of Nativity Scenes under the castle, which is situated in the premises of the former parsonage, or the Wax
Museum and the House of Clocks. The grandiosity of the castle is best observed while walking from the car park or the railway station. Visitors who will make use of horse and carriage transport have the same chance of admiring the view. Moreover there are a few cars from a taxi service providing transport. On the way up to the castle it is possible to buy souvenirs or have a meal in one of the many restaurants. For visitors that wish to stay in Karlštejn for several days, there are small hotels and guest houses with modern facilities available. The official Internet pages of the Karlštejn Castle are to be found at www.hradkarlstejn.cz
Points of Interest
The Karlštejn Castle is surrounded by five picturesque peaks, which are a part of the national nature reserve that stretches over 1547 ha of land. The area was proclaimed a reserve in 1955. From a geological point of view it belongs to Barrandien and is formed by
Palaeozoic limestone and shale. In the village on the bank of the River Berounka there stands the famous Budňanská Rock, which is internationally recognised as a geological boundary between Silurian and Devonian. Groves of oak and horn-beam species and downy oak woods abound here. The reserve is available through a network of tourist paths and a special nature trail.
Sport and Recreation

For sports-minded tourists there is a camp site, well-kept tennis courts, a football pitch and a volley-ball court. Demanding visitors can enjoy themselves at a first class fully equipped 18-hole golf course with a breathtaking view of the castle and the surrounding area (www.karlstejn-golf.cz).
